Why got to Colmar Christmas Market in 2022?

Voted the most beautiful Christmas market in 2017, Colmar is very popular with the French. No less than six spaces welcome you during the holiday season! Are you dreaming of learning more about the regional products of Alsace? Last year, 184 representatives animated the Colmar Christmas Market for the pleasure of young and old!

Practical information, Christmas market, Colmar 2022 :

The Colmar Christmas Market welcomes you from November 24th to December 29th, 2022! The schedules are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: 10 am to 7 pm (10 pm for the gourmet market) ;
  • Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (10 p.m. for the gourmet market).
  • Friday, December 24, open from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Saturday, December 25, open from 2pm to 7pm
  • Sunday, December 26, open from 10 am to 8 pm

A valid health pass will be required to access the gourmet market.

Please note that on New Year’s Eve, the market closes at 5 p.m. and does not return until 2 p.m. the following day.

What makes the Colmar Christmas Market so different?

Five unique markets in one place!

This traditional city breathes authenticity. Through the six mini-villages, discover different facets of what gives them their identity. It lends itself perfectly to the magic of Christmas. The atmosphere and the architecture are sure to bring you back to your childhood.

A colossal upstream preparation

The decorations are simply sumptuous. In four days, 25,000 Christmas ornaments were installed, and 18 kilometers of fireflies were placed to enchant the city in 2022! 

This year, a light animation plan is also planned in order to continue to amaze you and highlight the architecture of the thousand-year-old city.

A traditional architecture

Buildings designed between the Middle Ages and the 19th century can be admired while being lulled by folk music.

Discover, among others, the Pfister House, the Kofhus, the Unterlinden Museum, the Little Venice, the House of the Heads, or the Saint-Martin Collegiate Church.

A city lit up at night with a thousand lights

The atmosphere changes throughout the day thanks to the play of light, and when night comes, the magic happens.

You won’t be bored! Everything is there for you to spend a memorable moment, from the various animations to the guided tours, shows, and not to mention the tasting of local products. 

Wineries in the vicinity

And if you are a wine lover, you should take the opportunity to visit the Alsatian wine cellars. The local producers will be happy to give you a guided tour.

Presentation of Christmas destinations in Colmar 

1) Place des Dominicains: the most imposing

It is Colmar’s main market place, with more than 50 representatives on a regular basis!

You can contemplate the majestic Church of the Dominicans. Admire the magnificent stained-glass windows dating from the 14th century, illuminated at night.

You will find local products under the wooden chalets, as well as original ideas for your Christmas decorations—your tree will be delighted!

2) Place de l’ancienne douane : between tradition and modernity

The former economic heart of Colmar, this place reveals the eventful history of Colmar through its architecture. Under the stands spread around the Schwendi fountain, you will find classical as well as contemporary decorations.

At night, don’t miss the light show on the Koifhus building. You will be able to admire its Renaissance staircase in all its glory.

Koifhus construction: a family tradition

Inside the medieval building, you will be warm! You will be able to contemplate the various craftsmen present: ce, etc.ramists, potters, cabinet makers, hat makers… And their creations are carried out with zeal.

On the second floor, the toy museum will delight children and adults alike! In this place, toys dating from the 19th century to the present day are displayed. Toys can be seen in cartoons and movies (Toy Story, when you hold us…

You will also find the room of the Decapole, where you will discover books, old jewels, and other artisanal creations.

La Petite Venise : for the happiness of children

Instead of the six black mountains, a place specially designed for your child awaits you. Your child can enjoy sweets and games! Admire the mechanical crib during a break, and let your children marvel at the discovery of rabbits and sheep!

Take a ride with your little ones on the 1900 merry-go-round, the largest wooden horse merry-go-round inaugurated in France! Don’t forget about Santa’s massive mailbox: he has promised to answer all of your letters.

Every Wednesday at 4pm, Santa Claus will give presents to fourteen children. It’s magical!

Joan of Arc Square: to immerse yourself in tradition

Surrounded by half-timbered houses, this place offers you a more intimate and traditional atmosphere. 

If you are looking for local products, this place has been designed for you! Between foie gras, charcuterie, wines, specialties, brandies (schnapps), and Christmas bredalas, let your taste buds melt with pleasure.

Marché de Noël Gourmand : a kitchen full of emotions

In the place of the cathedral, it is the last of the six spaces! With nine chefs, each installed in a hut, you will find your happiness in the middle of Alsatian specialties, to be tasted on the spot at “mange-debout” or to take away. 

A culinary show is also organized to fill your eyes (and your taste buds!).

Place Rapp’s ephemeral skating rink: for thrill seekers 

Finally, to end on a high note, why not walk across the 800 m2 ice rink at Place Rapp with your hair blowing in the wind? The entrance fee is 1.70 € and the skate rental fee is 2 €. Go for it!

Numerous animations are presented to keep you in suspense. 

For the older ones, the carousel-bar opens its arms to you! Discover the Christmas caterpillar for a unique walk! 

Christmas cellars

Are you passionate about wine? Come and visit the different wine estates, specially decorated for the occasion: Domaine Martin Jund, Karcher, or the Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar. You will meet the wine growers, with whom you will be able to taste the grape varieties, eaux de vies, and liqueurs unique to this region.

How to come to the Colmar Christmas market?

From Paris, you can take the TGV. It takes approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes from the Gare de l’Est or the Gare de Lyon. 

If you come by car, the closest parking lots to the city center are Mairie, St. Josse, Rapp, Le Carre, Gare/Bleylé, Scheurer Kestner, and St. Eloi. 

The parking lot of the Parc des Expositions is free on weekends to allow you to make the most of this occasion. 

Free shuttles are available at the same place to go to the city center. Get off at the St. Eloi stop. They are also available in the opposite direction.

Once in downtown Colmar, you are only a 15-minute walk from the Christmas market!
